Louis Vierne
(1870
- 1937)
A student of Franck. Organist at
Notre Dame from 1900 to 1937. He wrote six organ symphonies.
The
first two are in the romantic tradition.

Marcel
Dupré
(1886 - 1971)
Marcel
Dupré was an astonishing organist who could play the
complete works of Bach from memory! He was the author of a
large body of works, mostly for the organ. He
followed Franck (after an eight-year stint by Pierné) in
the position of organist at the great Cavaillé-Coll organ
at the Cathedral Sainte-Clotilde in Paris and remained
there until his death. Among his early works are
compositions of great beauty in the romantic tradition;
however, he later adopted the ways of 20th-century music,
and his later works are often dark.
Jean Langlais
(1907 - 1991)
A pupil of Tournemire, the
organist at Sante-Clotilde from 1945 to 1987. He has composed some very beautiful
compositions for organ
