Victoria Requiem
Choir of Westminster Cathedral
James O'Donnell, director
Hyperion CDA66250

This is a great recording of Victoria's great Requiem of 1611 in 6 parts.  Victoria wrote two requiems, this was his second, written toward the end of his life. The other requiem, for 4 parts, is long out of print, having been recorded in the 1950s.

Victoria: Missa Dum complerentur and Missa Simile est regnum coelorum
Christ Church Cathedral Choir, Oxford
Stephen Darlington, director
Nimbus NI 5434

A recording of Victoria's Mass Missa Simile est regnum coelorum. This was probably the first time this work has  ever been recorded.

  • Motet and Missa Dum complerentur:  The Dum complerentur mass is based on Victoria's motet Dum complerentur for five parts (It was a practice among composers of this period to create masses using material from other compositions). Victoria's mass is in six parts.

  • Motet and Missa Simile est regnum coelorum:  This mass is based on Guerrero's motet Simile est regnum coelorum.

Victoria Lamentations and Tenebrae Responsories
The Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge
Richard Marlow, director
Conifer CDCF 188

A fantastic recording of Victoria's Lamentations (for the first nocturn of tenebrae in Holy Week) and the responsories for the second nocturn. (The responsories for the third nocturn are not included on this CD).
